About

How occipital nerve blocks fit head and neck pain care

Occipital nerve blocks target pain near the occipital nerves at the back of the head. Patients may ask about them after headaches, scalp sensitivity, neck pain, or an injury. Our physician first reviews your symptoms, medical history, and current treatments. The discussion also covers possible benefits, limits, side effects, and other care options. A nerve block may reduce pain for some patients, but it doesn't guarantee lasting relief. Risks matter with any injection. Soreness, bleeding, infection, temporary numbness, or a change in symptoms can occur. We explain warning signs and recovery steps so you know when to contact our office or seek urgent care. Free consultations give you space to ask about fit before choosing a treatment. We provide individualized treatment plans based on your condition and needs.

What Occipital Nerve Blocks Covers

Occipital nerve blocks are minimally invasive treatments that place medication near nerves at the back of the head to reduce selected pain.

  • Occipital nerve blocks differ from medication management because they target a specific nerve region during an interventional pain visit.
  • The service is available to patients in Stockbridge, Henry County, and nearby communities.

What to prepare before discussing a nerve block

Bring details that help us connect your symptoms with the occipital nerve region.

  • Write down where the pain starts and where it travels.
  • List current medicines, allergies, and past pain treatments.
  • Bring relevant medical records or imaging reports.
  • Note headache triggers, scalp sensitivity, neck symptoms, and changes in daily function.
  • Prepare questions about risks, aftercare, and other treatment options.

Tracy checked me in. Tony triaged me and Dr Scott took care of me. They made me feel welcome and comfortable from start to finish. I don't think I've ever had a doctor's visit this WONDERFUL! I barely felt a thing and as a person who is terribly afraid of needles, they took all my fears away and provided an excellent experience. Tony plays your favorite music during the procedure and it lasts about one song. I cannot say enough good things about this place!!!

Questions about occipital nerve block treatment

Who provides occipital nerve blocks in Stockbridge?

Premier Injury Specialists provides occipital nerve blocks through physician-led pain management care. Our pain management physician reviews your symptoms, health history, and treatment goals before discussing fit. The visit also covers possible risks, expected aftercare, and other options. We serve patients in Stockbridge, Henry County, and nearby communities.

How much does an occipital nerve block cost?

The cost depends on your evaluation, treatment plan, and related care needs. We don't publish a business price for this service. Free consultations let you discuss the procedure and request details about your care plan. Our team can explain what the planned visit includes before treatment is scheduled.

How painful is an occipital nerve block?

An occipital nerve block may cause brief pressure, a needle sensation, or soreness near the injection area. Experience varies by person and pain condition. Our physician explains what you may feel and how to watch the area afterward. Tell us about needle fear or prior injection problems during the consultation.

What risks should I know before treatment?

Injection risks include soreness, bleeding, infection, temporary numbness, and changes in symptoms. Our physician reviews these risks before treatment and explains warning signs that need medical attention. Seek urgent care for severe symptoms such as weakness, confusion, trouble breathing, or sudden worsening pain. Follow-up questions are welcome during your care.

Do I need a referral before discussing this treatment?

A referral is not stated as a requirement for discussing occipital nerve blocks with our office. We begin by reviewing your symptoms, medical history, and current care. Bring any records or imaging reports you have. The consultation helps determine what information and next steps fit your situation.

What should I bring to my first pain visit?

Medical records, medication details, allergy information, and symptom notes help us assess your treatment needs. Bring imaging reports or injury documents when they relate to your pain. Tell us when symptoms began, where they travel, and what makes them better or worse. Those details support a focused discussion.

Can these blocks treat pain after an auto accident?

Occipital nerve blocks may fit selected head or upper neck pain after an auto accident. We evaluate the injury history, symptom pattern, and other conditions before recommending treatment. Our team also documents auto accident injuries for ongoing care. The consultation determines whether this option belongs in your individualized plan.

Scenarios

When Customers Call Us About Occipital Nerve Blocks

1

Headache With Scalp Sensitivity

Pain behind the head can spread across the scalp and make touch uncomfortable. The location, pattern, and related neck symptoms matter before an injection is considered. During a consultation in Stockbridge, we review those details and discuss whether a targeted nerve block belongs in your treatment plan.

2

Neck Injury With Repeated Head Pain

After an auto accident or sports injury, neck pain and headaches may appear together. We need the injury history, current symptoms, and prior care to understand the pattern. Bring your records and medication list, then schedule a consultation so our physician can explain suitable next steps.

3

Concern About Injection Risks

Fear of needles or uncertainty about side effects can make treatment decisions harder. Our physician explains the injection area, possible soreness, temporary numbness, infection signs, and recovery guidance before you choose. A free consultation lets you ask direct questions without committing to treatment.

Our Other Services

Knee Pain TreatmentKnee pain can interfere with stairs, walking, exercise, and work demands. A focused evaluation considers cartilage wear, arthritis, prior injury, and movement limits, then guides medication, therapy, or joint injection options.
Auto Accident Injury EvaluationAfter a crash, neck pain, back pain, or numbness can make daily tasks difficult. A clinical exam reviews collision injuries, range of motion, and nerve symptoms, then guides imaging referrals and treatment planning for a clearer recovery path.
Epidural Steroid InjectionsLeg or arm pain from an irritated spinal nerve can limit walking, lifting, or sleep. An epidural steroid injection places medication near the affected nerve root to calm inflammation and support movement during rehabilitation.
Facet Joint InjectionsArthritis in the small facet joints can cause painful, restricted neck or back movement. Facet joint injections deliver anesthetic and corticosteroid near the irritated joint, helping identify the pain source and improve everyday function.
Medial Branch BlocksBack or neck pain from facet joints may continue despite ordinary treatment. Medial branch blocks temporarily numb the nerves serving those joints, helping confirm the source and guide later radiofrequency ablation when appropriate.
Radiofrequency AblationPersistent facet-related back or neck pain can return after temporary relief from nerve blocks. Radiofrequency ablation uses controlled heat on selected medial branch nerves, reducing pain signals and supporting easier movement during daily activities.
