Why do headaches keep happening after an occipital nerve block?

Recurring headaches can reflect an ongoing pain source, a different diagnosis, or limited treatment response. Occipital Nerve Blocks in Jonesboro, Georgia: Safety and Treatment Fit

Occipital nerve blocks may suit patients whose pain follows the occipital nerves or remains focused around the back of the head and upper neck. The decision starts with a pain history, physical exam, medication review, and discussion of prior care.

The key buyer question is safety, not simply whether an injection is available. We check for factors that could change the plan, including medicines that affect clotting, signs of infection, skin changes near the injection area, and symptoms that point to another condition.

A nerve block is not the right answer for every headache or neck pain problem. We may recommend a different treatment plan when symptoms do not match the nerve pattern, when a medical issue needs attention first, or when the risks outweigh the likely benefit.

  • Describe where the pain starts and where it travels.
  • Bring a current list of medicines and supplements.
  • Share prior injections, imaging, diagnoses, and treatment responses.
  • Ask which risks could change your treatment plan.
  • Discuss follow-up care before scheduling a procedure.

Process

How We Plan Occipital Nerve Block Treatment

1

Review the pain pattern

We ask where pain starts, how it travels, and how it affects sleep, work, and movement.

2

Check medical and medication history

We review diagnoses, allergies, prior procedures, current medicines, and symptoms that could change treatment safety.

3

Assess treatment suitability

The physician compares the exam findings with the nerve pattern and decides whether a block fits your condition.

4

Explain risks and choices

We discuss infection risk, temporary dizziness, hair thinning, and other concerns before you choose the next step.

5

Plan follow-up care

Follow-up guidance connects the procedure with medication management, rehabilitation, or other pain care when appropriate.

How We Approach Occipital Nerve Block Decisions

Medical history before treatment

Medication use, past procedures, allergies, and current symptoms can change whether a block is suitable. We review these details before making a plan.

Risk discussion in plain language

We explain infection risk, temporary dizziness, hair thinning, and other possible concerns. You can ask questions before deciding.

A clear limit on nerve blocks

This treatment may be the wrong fit when symptoms suggest another condition or when an injection could add avoidable risk. We discuss other pain care when needed.

A situation this service fits

A patient in Jonesboro with pain at the back of the head after an injury may want an injection quickly. We first review the injury history, medicines, skin condition, and pain pattern, then explain whether a nerve block fits the findings.

Tracy checked me in. Tony triaged me and Dr Scott took care of me. They made me feel welcome and comfortable from start to finish. I don't think I've ever had a doctor's visit this WONDERFUL! I barely felt a thing and as a person who is terribly afraid of needles, they took all my fears away and provided an excellent experience. Tony plays your favorite music during the procedure and it lasts about one song. I cannot say enough good things about this place!!!

Questions About Occipital Nerve Block Safety and Fit

What risks can occur with occipital nerve blocks?

Bleeding risk is one possible concern, along with infection, temporary dizziness, and hair thinning. Premier Injury Specialists reviews medicines, allergies, skin condition, and medical history before treatment. We explain what symptoms need attention and answer questions before you decide. Individual results and reactions vary, so follow-up guidance matters after the procedure.

How does a physician decide if this treatment fits?

Treatment fit comes from the pain pattern, physical exam, medical history, and treatment goals. We look for symptoms that match the occipital nerves and check whether another condition needs attention first. A nerve block may not suit pain with a different source, unclear symptoms, or safety concerns that outweigh possible benefit.

Which medicines should I discuss before the injection?

Blood-thinning medicines, supplements, allergy medicines, and pain drugs should be discussed before treatment. Bring a current medication list, including nonprescription products. Our physician reviews that list with your history and explains whether any medicine changes the safety plan. Do not stop a prescribed medicine unless the prescribing clinician directs you.

When should dizziness after treatment concern me?

Temporary dizziness can occur, but severe, persistent, or worsening dizziness needs medical advice. Sit or lie down if you feel lightheaded, and avoid driving until you feel steady. Seek urgent care for fainting, weakness, confusion, trouble speaking, chest pain, or breathing problems. Our follow-up guidance covers symptoms that need attention.

Why might hair thinning occur near the injection area?

Hair thinning near the injection area is an uncommon local reaction that can follow some injections. The affected area may remain limited, but any new change deserves discussion with the treating physician. We explain this concern before treatment and can review other options when the risk does not fit your goals.

When scheduling Occipital Nerve Blocks, what changes the cost of this treatment?

The treatment plan, medical assessment, and related care determine the cost. A consultation clarifies whether a nerve block fits and what services the plan includes. Premier Injury Specialists offers upfront pricing and Free Consultations, so you can ask about charges before choosing treatment. No market price is stated here as our price.

Do I need a referral before scheduling an assessment?

A referral requirement depends on your health plan and care pathway. Our staff can discuss the information needed to arrange an assessment. Bring medical records, imaging reports, accident details, and medication information when available. The physician uses that history to discuss nerve blocks and other pain treatment options.
