Working With Our Team in Candler-McAfee

Occipital nerve blocks are considered when pain may involve the occipital nerves at the back of the head. The visit focuses on whether the symptom pattern fits this treatment and whether another cause needs attention first.

The main buyer decision is safety and fit. Bleeding risk rises with some medicines or health conditions, while infection risk relates to the injection site and overall health. Temporary dizziness can also occur, so we explain what to watch for before you decide.

This page serves patients seeking focused pain care through Premier Injury Specialists in Candler-McAfee and nearby communities. Our team also treats injury-related pain, neck pain, nerve pain, and other musculoskeletal concerns when appropriate.

Service Overview

Occipital nerve blocks are injections near the occipital nerves that may reduce pain signals from the back of the head and upper neck.

  • They differ from medication management because they target a nerve region directly, while medication management uses prescribed drugs to affect pain more broadly.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this treatment for suitable patients in Candler-McAfee.

What patients should weigh before choosing nerve blocks

Physician-LED suitability review

The treatment starts with a physician-led assessment of symptoms, medicines, and health history. The goal is to match the procedure to the pain pattern, not to assume every headache or neck complaint fits.

Risk discussion before treatment

We discuss bleeding, infection, and temporary dizziness before you agree to care. Tell us about blood-thinning medicines, prior infections, allergies, and any past reaction to injections.

When another evaluation fits better

Occipital nerve blocks may be the wrong choice when symptoms suggest a different source or need urgent medical assessment. We explain the next step when the nerve pattern does not fit.

Process

Steps in an occipital nerve block consultation

1

Review symptoms and health history

We ask about pain location, triggers, prior care, medical conditions, allergies, and current medicines.

2

Check treatment fit and safety

We assess whether the occipital nerve pattern fits and identify factors such as blood-thinning medicine or infection risk.

3

Explain the planned injection

We discuss the injection site, expected treatment purpose, possible risks, and other options in plain language.

4

Set aftercare and warning guidance

We explain what to monitor after treatment and which signs require prompt medical attention.

What this treatment decision can clarify

A focused nerve assessment can help identify whether occipital pain is part of the problem.

Risk counselling gives you a clearer basis for accepting or declining treatment.

Medication review can identify details that change the safety plan.

The consultation may clarify whether another pain source needs evaluation first.

Safety questions to compare before treatment

These points help you compare the main risk discussions for an occipital nerve block.

I had a great experience at premier injury specialist after my car accident. From the moment I walked in, Tracy, the patient coordinator, made sure I understood the process and felt comfortable. Tony, the medical assistant, did an amazing job explaining the procedure in detail, which eased my nerves. Dr. Vyas thoroughly reviewed my MRI and took the time to explain my condition and treatment options. He was very honest and upfront about the procedure, making sure I truly needed the injection before administering it. His transparency and genuine care for my well-being reassured me that this office isn’t just in it for the money — they are truly invested in their patients’ health. I highly recommend this office to anyone in need of pain management. They provide exceptional care with professionalism and integrity.

Questions patients ask about nerve block safety

When evaluating scope, what risks can occur with occipital nerve blocks during the initial assessment?

Hair thinning is unrelated to the main risks of occipital nerve blocks, which include bleeding, infection, and temporary dizziness. Premier Injury Specialists reviews your medicines and health history before treatment. Tell us about blood thinners, immune problems, allergies, or recent infection. Seek urgent care for severe symptoms, spreading redness, fever, fainting, or sudden neurological changes.

How does a physician decide whether nerve blocks fit my pain?

The pain pattern and medical history decide whether occipital nerve blocks fit your condition. We consider where pain starts, how it travels, what triggers it, and which treatments you have tried. A different evaluation may be better when symptoms suggest another source. You can bring prior records and a current medicine list.

Which medicines should I mention before an injection?

Blood-thinning medicines are especially important to mention before an injection. Include prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, supplements, and medicines taken for injury pain. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own. Our team reviews the list and explains whether it changes the treatment plan or requires coordination with another clinician.

When should I worry about dizziness after treatment?

Temporary dizziness can occur after an occipital nerve block, but severe or persistent symptoms need medical advice. Sit or lie down if you feel lightheaded, and avoid driving until you feel steady. Seek urgent care for fainting, trouble speaking, new weakness, chest pain, or other sudden serious symptoms.

Why could infection risk change the treatment plan?

An active infection near the injection site can make treatment unsafe until a clinician evaluates it. Tell us about fever, spreading redness, drainage, or a recent infection before your appointment. We check the relevant health details and explain whether care should proceed, change, or wait for medical review.

What should I confirm before agreeing to a nerve block?

Confirm the treatment target, expected purpose, key risks, aftercare, and alternatives before agreeing. Ask how your medicines affect the plan and which warning signs need urgent attention. In Candler-McAfee, Premier Injury Specialists can discuss these points during a consultation and explain the next step in plain language.
