Occipital nerve blocks for headache pain in Avondale Estates

Occipital nerve blocks focus on pain linked to the occipital nerves at the back of the head. They may fit people with migraine headaches, cervicogenic headaches, occipital neuralgia, or selected tension headaches.

The key decision is symptom fit. Pain that starts in the neck, spreads across the scalp, or causes tenderness near the back of the head may point toward nerve involvement. We still check the full history because not every headache comes from the occipital nerves.

Our team reviews prior treatments, medication use, injury history, and daily limits. A consultation helps separate a nerve-related headache pattern from pain that needs another form of care.

  • Pain location and spread across the head or neck.
  • Scalp tenderness, neck pain, and nerve sensitivity.
  • Prior headache treatments and medication use.
  • Whether the symptoms fit a nerve-focused treatment plan.

Service Overview

Occipital nerve blocks are injections near the occipital nerves that may reduce pain signals from the back of the head and upper neck.

  • The treatment differs from medication management because it targets a nerve region directly, while medication works through the body.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this service for patients in Avondale Estates and surrounding communities.
Process

How headache patients move through treatment planning

1

Review the headache pattern

We document where the pain starts, where it travels, and which symptoms appear with it.

2

Check the neck and nerve signs

The assessment considers neck movement, scalp tenderness, and signs that may connect the pain to the occipital nerves.

3

Discuss suitable care

The physician explains whether a nerve block fits and reviews other options that may support the treatment plan.

4

Plan follow-up care

The care plan addresses the next clinical step and may include medication management or rehabilitation guidance.

I had a great experience at premier injury specialist after my car accident. From the moment I walked in, Tracy, the patient coordinator, made sure I understood the process and felt comfortable. Tony, the medical assistant, did an amazing job explaining the procedure in detail, which eased my nerves. Dr. Vyas thoroughly reviewed my MRI and took the time to explain my condition and treatment options. He was very honest and upfront about the procedure, making sure I truly needed the injection before administering it. His transparency and genuine care for my well-being reassured me that this office isn’t just in it for the money — they are truly invested in their patients’ health. I highly recommend this office to anyone in need of pain management. They provide exceptional care with professionalism and integrity.

Questions patients ask about nerve block treatment

When reviewing site readiness, what headaches can occipital nerve blocks treat during the on-site evaluation?

Migraine headaches, cervicogenic headaches, occipital neuralgia, and some tension headaches may respond to occipital nerve blocks. The treatment works best when symptoms suggest occipital nerve involvement. A physician reviews the pain location, neck symptoms, exam findings, and treatment history before making a recommendation. Other headache causes may need a different care plan.

Who provides occipital nerve blocks for patients in Avondale Estates?

Premier Injury Specialists provides occipital nerve blocks through physician-led pain management care. Our team evaluates the condition before discussing treatment. The assessment may include headache history, neck symptoms, medication use, and prior injury details. Patients receive an explanation of the plan and its alternatives before deciding how to proceed.

How does a physician decide whether this treatment fits?

Treatment fit depends on the headache pattern, nerve symptoms, neck findings, and medical history. The consultation connects those details with the patient’s goals and prior care. Symptoms that do not suggest occipital nerve involvement may point toward another option. The physician explains that distinction during the assessment.

What should I bring to a headache consultation for Occipital Nerve Blocks?

A symptom history, medication list, prior imaging, and records from earlier treatment can support the consultation. Include when the pain began, where it spreads, and what makes it better or worse. Accident or workplace injury records can also help when pain followed an injury. Our team uses this information to build an individualized plan.

Which part of the treatment plan changes the price for Occipital Nerve Blocks?

The recommended clinical service and the patient’s treatment needs determine the price. The consultation identifies the condition, the appropriate care, and any related services in the plan. We discuss upfront pricing before treatment and offer Free Consultations. Patients can ask questions about what the proposed care includes before choosing to proceed.

When should a headache patient seek urgent medical care?

A sudden severe headache, new weakness, confusion, fainting, vision loss, or trouble speaking needs urgent medical assessment. Occipital nerve blocks are not a substitute for emergency evaluation. Patients with new or rapidly changing symptoms should seek immediate medical care. Our consultation is intended for planned pain assessment, not emergency diagnosis.
