Occipital Nerve Blocks for Riverdale pain concerns

Occipital nerve blocks are considered when pain follows the path of the occipital nerves. Patients may seek care for pain after an injury, ongoing neck pain, or nerve-related head pain.

The key decision is fit. A pain management physician reviews the symptoms, exam findings, health history, and current medicines before discussing whether a nerve block belongs in the plan. The treatment doesn't replace care for every cause of head or neck pain.

This page focuses on treatment safety, especially infection risk, bleeding risk, temporary dizziness, and hair thinning. Those concerns deserve a direct discussion before any procedure.

  • Discuss the pain location, pattern, and effect on daily movement.
  • Review medicines and health conditions that could affect treatment safety.
  • Ask how infection risk, bleeding risk, dizziness, and hair thinning are addressed.
  • Confirm the treatment plan and pricing before scheduling.

Process

How occipital nerve blocks are planned

1

Review the pain pattern

We discuss where pain starts, where it travels, and how it affects movement or daily tasks.

2

Check health and medicines

The physician reviews your health history, current medicines, skin concerns, and other factors linked to treatment safety.

3

Discuss treatment fit

Findings are explained in plain language, including whether nerve-focused treatment fits the suspected pain source.

4

Plan follow-up care

The care plan sets out what to watch for after treatment and how future pain changes will be reviewed.

Tracy checked me in. Tony triaged me and Dr Scott took care of me. They made me feel welcome and comfortable from start to finish. I don't think I've ever had a doctor's visit this WONDERFUL! I barely felt a thing and as a person who is terribly afraid of needles, they took all my fears away and provided an excellent experience. Tony plays your favorite music during the procedure and it lasts about one song. I cannot say enough good things about this place!!!

Questions about occipital nerve block safety

When evaluating scope, what risks can occur with occipital nerve blocks as part of the intake checklist?

Infection risk is uncommon but requires careful review before treatment. Other possible concerns include bleeding, temporary dizziness, and hair thinning near the injection area. Premier Injury Specialists discusses your health history, medicines, skin condition, and warning signs before planning care. Contact a medical provider promptly if severe symptoms, fever, spreading redness, or sudden weakness develops.

How does the first safety check work?

The safety check reviews your symptoms, medical history, medicines, and the skin near the planned injection area. We also discuss prior reactions and conditions that could change the treatment plan. Bring an updated medication list and tell us about new illness or skin changes before the appointment. That information helps guide a safer decision.

Which medicines should I discuss before treatment for Occipital Nerve Blocks?

Blood-thinning medicines and medicines linked to dizziness deserve specific discussion before an injection. Do not stop prescribed medicine without medical guidance. Our team reviews your full medication list and health history during the assessment. This review helps identify questions for the physician before a treatment plan is finalized.

When should I ask about hair thinning?

Hair thinning near the injection area is a possible local concern that should be discussed before treatment. The physician can explain how the injection location and treatment plan relate to that risk. Ask about any past hair or skin problems during your consultation. Report new changes so they can be assessed.

Why might temporary dizziness happen?

Temporary dizziness can occur after an injection and should be discussed before treatment. Patients should tell us about balance problems, fainting, or medicines that already cause dizziness. We explain what to watch for and when to seek medical advice. Severe or lasting dizziness needs prompt medical attention.

Who provides occipital nerve block care?

Premier Injury Specialists provides occipital nerve block care through physician-led pain management. Our team evaluates symptoms, reviews treatment fit, and connects the procedure with medication management or rehabilitation guidance when appropriate. Patients can ask questions about risks, alternatives, and follow-up before choosing a plan.

What changes the treatment price for this safety-focused visit?

The treatment plan, medical assessment, and related care determine the price for this visit. Upfront pricing is discussed before treatment, and Free Consultations help patients understand the planned care. Bring questions about the procedure, follow-up, and any medication review so the pricing discussion matches the actual plan.
