Why does neck or nerve pain keep happening after an injury, and when should I ask about a stellate ganglion block?

Ongoing neck or nerve pain needs a medical assessment before an injection is considered. Pain after an auto accident, workplace injury, or sports injury can have several causes. A pain management physician reviews your symptoms, records, and treatment history, then explains whether a block fits your condition. Seek urgent medical care for sudden weakness, trouble breathing, or severe new symptoms.

Stellate ganglion block care for Forest Park patients

A stellate ganglion block is considered when pain involves nerve-related symptoms or persists after an injury. The decision starts with a focused pain evaluation, not with the injection itself.

Our team reviews the pain location, symptom pattern, medical history, and prior treatment. We also consider whether medication management, rehabilitation guidance, or another interventional treatment better fits the problem.

This page helps patients decide what to ask before booking care in Forest Park. The key question is whether the block matches the diagnosis, the pain source, and the patient's broader treatment plan.

  • Bring a list of current medicines and previous pain treatments.
  • Describe when the pain began and how it affects movement or sleep.
  • Ask how the proposed injection fits the full treatment plan.
  • Discuss medical conditions that could affect injection safety.

Service Overview

A stellate ganglion block is an injection near a group of nerves in the lower neck that may help manage certain pain patterns.

  • Unlike medication management alone, the block delivers local anesthetic near the target nerves as part of an interventional pain plan.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this care for suitable patients in Forest Park and surrounding communities.
Process

How the injection is planned and performed

1

Review symptoms and medical history

The physician reviews your pain pattern, current medicines, past treatment, and health history to assess suitability.

2

Select the guidance method

3

Plan needle placement

The treatment plan identifies the intended nerve area and considers local anesthetic, contrast dye, and safe needle placement.

4

Tracy checked me in. Tony triaged me and Dr Scott took care of me. They made me feel welcome and comfortable from start to finish. I don't think I've ever had a doctor's visit this WONDERFUL! I barely felt a thing and as a person who is terribly afraid of needles, they took all my fears away and provided an excellent experience. Tony plays your favorite music during the procedure and it lasts about one song. I cannot say enough good things about this place!!!

Questions about stellate ganglion block treatment

How is a stellate ganglion block performed?

Ultrasound guidance helps the physician view the treatment area and plan needle placement. Premier Injury Specialists first reviews your symptoms, history, and treatment goals. The plan may include local anesthetic and contrast dye, with fluoroscopy guidance considered when appropriate. The physician explains the approach and answers questions before treatment begins.

What type of doctor provides this injection?

Premier Injury Specialists provides this treatment through physician-led pain management care. The evaluation connects your symptoms with the possible pain source and your broader treatment plan. We also review medication management and rehabilitation guidance when they matter to your care. A consultation gives you a chance to ask about the physician’s approach before deciding.

Which symptoms should I discuss before considering the block?

Nerve-related neck pain, persistent pain after injury, and symptoms that limit movement deserve a focused medical review. Your symptom timing and pattern help guide the assessment. Tell the physician about weakness, numbness, current medicines, and earlier treatments. Sudden severe symptoms or trouble breathing require urgent medical attention, not a routine injection consultation.

When is this injection the wrong fit?

A stellate ganglion block is the wrong fit when the evaluation points to another pain source or a different treatment need. The physician reviews your history, symptoms, medicines, and prior care before recommending it. Medication management, rehabilitation guidance, or another intervention may better match the condition. Results vary, so the treatment plan stays specific to each patient.

Why does the guidance method matter during treatment?

The guidance method helps the physician plan the target and needle path with a clear view of the treatment area. Ultrasound guidance may be used, while fluoroscopy can be considered for a planned injection. The choice depends on the clinical plan and anatomy. Ask which method is proposed and how it supports your treatment decision.

What changes the cost of this type of injection?

The consultation, medical assessment, guidance method, and planned treatment details shape the cost. We provide upfront pricing and offer free consultations for patients who want to discuss care first. Your final plan also depends on the condition being treated and related services that may be appropriate. Ask for the pricing details during your consultation.
