Client Support and Delivery in Forest Park

Occipital neuralgia treatment addresses sharp, aching, burning, or sensitive pain that may travel from the upper neck toward the scalp. The work begins with a focused review of symptoms, tenderness points, pain distribution, and relevant medical history.

Patients often want to know whether their pain fits a nerve pattern or another condition. Our pain management physician uses the assessment to guide treatment planning, which may include medication management, rehabilitation guidance, or minimally invasive care when appropriate.

This page focuses on the diagnosis before treatment. That decision matters because scalp pain can have more than one cause, and nerve-focused care may not fit every headache or neck condition.

  • Describe where the pain starts and where it travels.
  • Note whether the pain feels sharp, burning, aching, or sensitive to touch.
  • Bring relevant medical records and imaging reports when available.
  • Ask which findings support nerve-related pain and which findings need more review.

Process

How We Assess and Plan Nerve Pain Care

1

Review the pain history

We discuss when symptoms began, where they travel, what triggers them, and how they affect daily function.

2

Check tenderness and pain paths

The examination checks tender areas and compares the reported pain path with physical findings.

3

Consider imaging findings

Available imaging studies are reviewed when they help assess other possible sources of head or neck pain.

4

Build the treatment plan

The physician explains the findings and discusses medication, rehabilitation, or interventional options when appropriate.

What Patients Get From This Pain Care

A focused clinical assessment

The first visit connects symptoms with tenderness points, pain distribution, and relevant history. This service is the wrong fit when symptoms suggest an unrelated condition that needs another type of medical evaluation.

Physician-LED pain management

A Pain Management Physician leads the evaluation and discusses evidence-based options that match the findings.

Individual treatment planning

Patients receive a plan shaped around their condition, movement goals, and need for medication or interventional care.

Tracy checked me in. Tony triaged me and Dr Scott took care of me. They made me feel welcome and comfortable from start to finish. I don't think I've ever had a doctor's visit this WONDERFUL! I barely felt a thing and as a person who is terribly afraid of needles, they took all my fears away and provided an excellent experience. Tony plays your favorite music during the procedure and it lasts about one song. I cannot say enough good things about this place!!!

Questions About Occipital Neuralgia Treatment

How is occipital neuralgia diagnosed before treatment?

Nerve examination is the main starting point for diagnosing suspected occipital neuralgia before treatment. Premier Injury Specialists reviews pain distribution, tenderness points, symptom history, and relevant imaging. The findings help distinguish nerve-related pain from other head or neck conditions. Your consultation also gives you time to ask what the assessment supports and which care options fit.

What type of doctor treats occipital neuralgia?

Premier Injury Specialists provides this care through a Pain Management Physician. The evaluation focuses on nerve symptoms, head and neck pain, medication management, and possible interventional care. Patients also receive an explanation of the findings and next steps. Another medical evaluation may be needed when symptoms point to a different condition.

Which symptoms should I describe before the appointment?

Pain location, pain quality, touch sensitivity, triggers, and movement limits are useful details to describe. Write down where symptoms begin and where they travel across the scalp or neck. Bring relevant records and imaging reports when available. This information helps our team connect your daily symptoms with the clinical assessment.

When should head and neck pain receive urgent medical attention?

Sudden severe head pain, weakness, confusion, fainting, or vision changes require urgent medical attention. These symptoms can signal a serious problem that needs prompt evaluation. Occipital neuralgia treatment is not a substitute for emergency care. Patients with new or rapidly changing symptoms should seek medical help before scheduling routine pain care.

Why might imaging be reviewed before a treatment plan?

Imaging can help the physician review other possible causes of head or neck pain. It does not replace the symptom history or physical assessment. Our team considers imaging alongside pain distribution, tenderness, and movement findings. Patients should bring available reports so the consultation can address the full clinical picture.

What changes the cost of this pain treatment?

The assessment findings, records reviewed, and selected treatment path can change the cost of care. Medication management, rehabilitation guidance, and interventional treatment involve different clinical decisions. We explain the recommended plan and pricing during the consultation. Free consultations are available for patients who want to discuss their symptoms first.
