Occipital Neuralgia Treatment for Conley patients

Occipital neuralgia can feel like sharp, burning, or electric pain that travels from the upper neck toward the scalp. Some people also notice tenderness when touching the back of the head or moving the neck.

The key decision is matching treatment to the cause and the person’s daily limits. Physical therapy may support movement, while medication management, nerve blocks, or muscle relaxation may fit other findings.

This service is for people who need focused pain care after an injury or during ongoing nerve pain. It isn't a substitute for urgent evaluation when severe symptoms appear suddenly, or when new weakness, confusion, or vision changes occur.

  • Note where the pain begins and where it travels.
  • Record triggers such as neck movement, touch, or sustained posture.
  • Bring relevant medical records and imaging to the consultation.
  • Ask how each proposed treatment fits your symptoms and daily goals.

Process

How we plan care for occipital nerve pain

1

Review the pain pattern

We discuss where pain starts, how it travels, what triggers it, and how it affects sleep, work, and movement.

2

Check movement and nerve signs

The assessment considers neck motion, scalp tenderness, muscle tension, injury history, and other findings linked to nerve pain.

3

Match treatment to the findings

We explain whether rehabilitation guidance, medication management, muscle relaxation, or a nerve block fits the clinical picture.

4

Set the next care step

The physician reviews the plan, answers questions, and explains follow-up needs without promising a fixed result.

What patients receive from this pain care

A plan tied to your symptoms

The assessment considers pain location, scalp sensitivity, neck motion, injury history, and daily function before treatment is discussed. We explain the fit of each option in plain language.

Physician-LED pain management

Our care is led by a Pain Management Physician, with attention to medication safety, nerve pain, rehabilitation guidance, and minimally invasive treatment when appropriate.

A clear limit on treatment fit

Occipital nerve care isn't the right first step for every severe headache or new neurologic symptom. Urgent symptoms need prompt medical evaluation, and our consultation helps identify the safer path.

A situation this service fits

A person in Conley with repeated pain from the upper neck into the scalp may want to know whether movement care, medication, or a nerve block fits best. We review the symptom pattern, neck function, and injury history before discussing options. The consultation gives that person a safer basis for choosing the next step.

Tracy checked me in. Tony triaged me and Dr Scott took care of me. They made me feel welcome and comfortable from start to finish. I don't think I've ever had a doctor's visit this WONDERFUL! I barely felt a thing and as a person who is terribly afraid of needles, they took all my fears away and provided an excellent experience. Tony plays your favorite music during the procedure and it lasts about one song. I cannot say enough good things about this place!!!

Questions about occipital nerve pain treatment

What treatment can relieve occipital neuralgia pain?

Physical therapy may help relieve occipital neuralgia pain when neck movement, posture, or muscle tension contributes to symptoms. Other options can include anti-inflammatory medication, muscle relaxation, or a nerve block when clinically appropriate. Premier Injury Specialists reviews your pain pattern and medical history first, then explains why a treatment fits your needs.

How does a pain physician decide which treatment fits?

Treatment choice follows a review of pain location, nerve sensitivity, neck motion, injury history, and daily function. Our physician also considers current medicines and relevant records. The plan may include rehabilitation guidance, medication management, or an interventional option, but the recommendation follows your assessment rather than a standard package.

Which records should I bring to the consultation for Occipital Neuralgia Treatment?

Relevant medical records, imaging reports, medication details, and injury information help the physician understand your condition. Bring a short symptom history if you have one. Include what triggers the pain and what affects sleep or movement. Those details help connect the consultation to a safer treatment discussion.

When should head and neck pain receive urgent attention?

Sudden severe pain with new weakness, confusion, fainting, major vision changes, or trouble speaking needs urgent medical attention. Ongoing nerve pain without those warning signs can be discussed during a pain consultation. Patients in Conley can request care through our Stockbridge location for a focused review of symptoms and treatment options.

Why might medication management be part of care for Occipital Neuralgia Treatment?

Medication management helps review whether pain medicine is suitable, safe, and consistent with your health history. Anti-inflammatory medication may be discussed when it fits the assessment, while other medicines may address muscle tension or nerve pain. We explain the purpose of each option and ask about medicines you already take.

What makes a nerve block different from rehabilitation guidance?

A nerve block targets pain near an irritated nerve, while rehabilitation guidance addresses movement, posture, and related muscle strain. The two options serve different roles and aren't interchangeable for every patient. Our physician uses the assessment to discuss whether one approach, both approaches, or another plan better fits the symptoms.
