About

How sympathetic nerve block care fits your pain plan

A sympathetic nerve block targets nerve signals that can contribute to certain pain patterns. It may be considered for selected nerve pain conditions, including pain after an injury, when the clinical findings support that approach. The key decision is fit. We review your symptoms, medical history, prior treatment, and available imaging before discussing the procedure. A block may be one part of care, alongside medication management, rehabilitation guidance, or follow-up evaluation. Our position is simple: a nerve block should follow a careful assessment, not replace one. Results vary, so we explain what the treatment may show and what other care may remain necessary.

What Sympathetic Nerve Block Covers

A sympathetic nerve block is a targeted injection that temporarily interrupts sympathetic nerve signals linked to certain pain conditions.

  • A sympathetic nerve block differs from an epidural injection because it targets sympathetic nerve activity, not the epidural space.
  • The service covers assessment, suitability planning, treatment discussion, and follow-up care for patients in the surrounding area.
Process

What happens before and after a sympathetic nerve block

1

Review the pain pattern

We discuss where the pain starts, how it feels, what changes it, and how it affects movement and daily tasks.

2

Check treatment fit

Our physician reviews your medical history, prior treatments, injury details, and relevant imaging referrals before discussing suitability.

3

Explain the planned procedure

We explain the purpose of the block, expected sensations, possible risks, and questions you should consider before treatment.

4

Coordinate follow-up care

After treatment, we review your symptoms and discuss the next part of your individualized plan, which may include rehabilitation guidance or other pain care.

What to prepare before discussing a sympathetic nerve block

Bring details that help us connect your symptoms with the right treatment decision.

  • A list of current medicines and supplements
  • Records from the injury or earlier pain visits
  • Available imaging reports or referral details
  • A short note about pain location, triggers, and movement limits
  • Questions about risks, expected sensations, and follow-up care

Tracy checked me in. Tony triaged me and Dr Scott took care of me. They made me feel welcome and comfortable from start to finish. I don't think I've ever had a doctor's visit this WONDERFUL! I barely felt a thing and as a person who is terribly afraid of needles, they took all my fears away and provided an excellent experience. Tony plays your favorite music during the procedure and it lasts about one song. I cannot say enough good things about this place!!!

Questions about sympathetic nerve block treatment

Who provides sympathetic nerve block care in Stockbridge?

Premier Injury Specialists provides sympathetic nerve block care through physician-led pain management. The first visit focuses on your symptoms, injury history, medicines, and treatment goals. We also review relevant records and imaging referrals when available. The consultation helps determine whether this treatment fits your condition and what follow-up care may be needed.

How painful is a sympathetic nerve block?

The injection can cause brief pressure or discomfort, but each person experiences treatment differently. We explain the steps before treatment and discuss ways to support comfort. Tell us if you fear needles or had a difficult injection before. Your medical history and treatment plan guide the discussion about risks and expected sensations.

Can a sympathetic nerve block make CRPS worse?

A sympathetic nerve block is not guaranteed to improve CRPS, and symptoms can vary after treatment. We review your diagnosis, symptom pattern, medicines, and medical history before discussing suitability. Our physician explains possible risks and alternatives, so you can make an informed choice. Contact urgent medical services for a severe or rapidly changing reaction.

What changes the cost of this treatment?

The cost depends on the clinical assessment, treatment plan, setting, and follow-up needs. Insurance rules may also affect your out-of-pocket amount. We don't provide a treatment price without reviewing your situation. Free Consultations give you a chance to discuss the proposed care and ask what the plan includes.

What records should I bring to the consultation?

Medical records, imaging reports, medicine lists, and injury documents help us assess treatment fit. Bring records from auto accidents, workplace injuries, sports injuries, or earlier pain visits when available. A short symptom diary can also help. Include the pain location, triggers, skin changes, movement limits, and treatments you've already tried.

Do I need a referral before discussing a nerve block?

A referral may depend on your health plan and clinical circumstances. Our office can review the information needed for your consultation and explain the next step. Bring any referral, imaging order, or prior treatment note you have. The physician still needs to assess your symptoms before discussing a procedure.

How does this differ from an epidural injection?

A sympathetic nerve block targets sympathetic nerve signals, while an epidural injection targets medication around the spinal nerves. The treatments address different clinical questions and pain patterns. Our physician considers the location, cause, and behavior of your symptoms before recommending either option. One treatment isn't right for every type of nerve pain.

Scenarios

When Customers Call Us About Sympathetic Nerve Block

1

Persistent Pain After An Injury

Pain that continues after an auto accident, workplace injury, or sports injury may involve more than strained muscle. Burning pain, touch sensitivity, or changes in skin temperature deserve a focused assessment. Bring your injury records and symptom history so we can discuss whether sympathetic nerve activity could be part of the pattern and whether a block belongs in your plan.

2

Movement Limited By Nerve Pain

Some patients avoid walking, lifting, or normal daily tasks because nerve pain keeps flaring. The treatment decision depends on the pain pattern, medical history, and findings from the clinical review. Write down which movements trigger symptoms, then schedule a consultation so we can connect those limits with a suitable care plan.

3

Concern About Injection Risks

Fear of needles or concern about worsening pain can make any injection decision difficult. We explain the purpose, possible sensations, risks, and follow-up plan before treatment is considered. Ask your questions during the consultation, and tell us about past reactions, medicines, and any concern that could affect your comfort or safety.

Our Other Services

Knee Pain TreatmentKnee pain can interfere with stairs, walking, exercise, and work demands. A focused evaluation considers cartilage wear, arthritis, prior injury, and movement limits, then guides medication, therapy, or joint injection options.
Auto Accident Injury EvaluationAfter a crash, neck pain, back pain, or numbness can make daily tasks difficult. A clinical exam reviews collision injuries, range of motion, and nerve symptoms, then guides imaging referrals and treatment planning for a clearer recovery path.
Epidural Steroid InjectionsLeg or arm pain from an irritated spinal nerve can limit walking, lifting, or sleep. An epidural steroid injection places medication near the affected nerve root to calm inflammation and support movement during rehabilitation.
Facet Joint InjectionsArthritis in the small facet joints can cause painful, restricted neck or back movement. Facet joint injections deliver anesthetic and corticosteroid near the irritated joint, helping identify the pain source and improve everyday function.
Medial Branch BlocksBack or neck pain from facet joints may continue despite ordinary treatment. Medial branch blocks temporarily numb the nerves serving those joints, helping confirm the source and guide later radiofrequency ablation when appropriate.
Occipital Nerve BlocksPain at the back of the head can spread toward the scalp, eyes, or temples. An occipital nerve block targets irritated occipital nerves with local anesthetic and steroid, reducing headache symptoms and improving comfort.
