Why does back or nerve pain keep returning after an injury?

Recurring pain can reflect irritation around a spinal nerve, an ongoing injury, or another condition that needs review. A pain management physician examines the pattern, related symptoms, and prior care before recommending treatment. An injection may fit some patients, while medication management, rehabilitation guidance, or another option may better match the findings.

Service Overview

Epidural steroid injections are minimally invasive treatments that place corticosteroid medication near irritated spinal nerves to help reduce inflammation and discomfort.

  • They differ from medication management because the injection delivers medicine near a targeted spinal area, while medication management uses prescribed medicine as part of a broader plan.
  • Premier Injury Specialists provides this care for patients in Lovejoy and surrounding communities through its Stockbridge location.

What patients should weigh before treatment

Match the injection to the pain source

A suitable plan starts with the symptom pattern and clinical assessment. This treatment is the wrong fit when the findings do not point to a spinal pain source.

Understand each medicine used

Local anesthetic and corticosteroid medication serve different purposes during treatment. We explain their roles before you decide whether to proceed.

Keep the wider plan in view

An injection is one part of care, not a replacement for every treatment. Medication management or rehabilitation guidance may remain important for lasting improvement.

Questions about epidural injections

Before work begins, how are epidural steroid injections performed during the scheduling phase?

Sterile technique, fluoroscopy guidance, and planned medication support the procedure. Premier Injury Specialists first reviews your symptoms and medical history. The treatment area is prepared, and fluoroscopy guides the needle toward the planned spinal area. Local anesthetic and corticosteroid medication are discussed before the injection. The physician then explains follow-up care and next steps.

What changes the treatment plan before an injection?

The pain source, symptom pattern, health history, and treatment goal shape the plan. Our team reviews prior care and checks whether the findings support an injection. The plan may also include medication management or rehabilitation guidance. A consultation gives you a chance to understand the options before agreeing to treatment.

Which medicine is used during an epidural injection?

An epidural injection may include local anesthetic and corticosteroid medication. Local anesthetic helps numb the treatment area, while corticosteroid medication addresses inflammation near an irritated spinal nerve. The physician explains the planned medicines during your assessment. Treatment choices depend on your condition and the goals of care.

When should I ask about an injection after an injury for Epidural Steroid Injections?

Ask about an injection when ongoing back, neck, or nerve pain affects movement after an injury. Premier Injury Specialists reviews the injury history and current symptoms before making a recommendation. Patients from Lovejoy can discuss auto, workplace, or sports injuries through the Stockbridge location. Urgent symptoms need prompt medical attention.

Why might an epidural injection be the wrong choice?

An injection may be the wrong choice when the assessment does not support a spinal pain source. The physician considers your symptoms, health history, and prior treatment before recommending it. Medication management, rehabilitation guidance, or another plan may fit better. Results vary, so the consultation focuses on safe and realistic next steps.

What should I confirm before agreeing to treatment for Epidural Steroid Injections?

Confirm the suspected pain source, the goal of treatment, and the medicines planned for the injection. Ask how fluoroscopy guidance is used and what follow-up care involves. Our team explains the procedure in plain language before you decide. You can also discuss how the injection fits with rehabilitation or medication management.
